The Artist's Way for Calligraphers | Calligraphy Classes
A Flourish Creative Group Program

Your Muse Is Not
Stuck in Traffic.

If you've been waiting to feel creative before you make something, try something, or finally trust an idea of your own, you could be waiting a while.

Because creativity isn't something bestowed upon a lucky few by a sparkly little fairy with excellent timing.

It's already there.

The Artist's Way for Calligraphers is a 14-week live journey through Julia Cameron's classic creative recovery course, created for calligraphers who want to get past the I'm not creative enough, I'm not good enough, and what if I do it wrong? of it all.

We'll spend 14 weeks finding out what happens when you stop waiting for inspiration, loosen perfectionism's grip, and give yourself permission to make, experiment, play, and follow the ideas that keep tapping you on the shoulder.

No creative fairy required.

14 weeks · Sept 29 – Jan 12 Live · Tuesdays, 1:00–3:00 PM Eastern $75 USD, full program

No meetings Dec 22 or Dec 29 — enjoy your holidays.

You might recognize a few of these.

The ruined page.

You're almost finished. It's looking so good. Then: one ink blot. One wonky letter. One tiny mistake near the bottom of the page and suddenly the whole thing is "ruined."

Never mind that ten minutes ago you were literally practicing on scrap paper.

The qualifier.

Someone tells you your calligraphy is beautiful.

"Oh, I just do calligraphy," you say.

Just.

You've somehow managed to downgrade what you do before anyone else even gets the chance.

The scroll.

You open Instagram for "inspiration."

Three minutes later, you've seen twelve impossibly perfect flourishes, someone casually producing a masterpiece before breakfast, and a 22-year-old who appears to have mastered Copperplate last Tuesday.

You close Instagram feeling considerably less inspired than when you opened it.

The drawer.

You know the one.

Practice sheets. Half-finished pieces. Things that didn't turn out quite the way you pictured them.

Too good to throw away. Not good enough, apparently, to let anyone see.

So into the drawer they go.

The trash.

You finish something beautiful.

Other people would happily frame it.

You see the one crossbar that's slightly off.

And into the bin it goes.

Because apparently the person who made the piece is also its least forgiving art critic.

Here's the interesting part.

None of these is really about calligraphy.

They're about perfectionism. Comparison. Permission. Confidence. That little voice that insists everyone else got issued some mysterious Creative Person Membership Card that somehow never arrived in your mailbox.

That's what we're going to spend 14 weeks working on.

Not your letters.

The part of you that decides whether they're good enough to count.

A creative recovery classic. Made for calligraphers.

The Artist's Way has been quietly fixing blocked creatives for over thirty years, whether you've read it three times or never heard of it until this page. It's not a technique book. It won't teach you a new hand or a new nib angle. It teaches you how to stop getting in your own way, which, if we're honest, was never really about the nib.

Each week we take one of Julia Cameron's themes and run it straight through the specific, particular, slightly ridiculous psychology of being a calligrapher. Perfectionism. Comparison. Claiming the word "artist" without flinching.

Somewhere along the way, the imposter feeling starts to loosen its grip too, that nagging sense that you're one bad page away from being found out.

Week 1 is a prep week to get oriented. Weeks 2 through 13 are the 12-week core program, one theme at a time. Week 14 is a wrap-up circle to close things out together.

You bring the pen. We'll handle the rest.

A peek at the 14 weeks

Every Tuesday, a new theme, a live 2-hour call, and a workbook page that's actually yours to write on.

Week 2

The Ugly Page

Worst nib, worst ink, twenty tries, zero fixing. The most useful bad calligraphy you'll ever make.

Week 4

Reading Your Envy

That feeling when you see someone else's feed isn't shameful, it's a map. We'll read it together.

Week 7

The Honest Piece

The letterform you keep "fixing" because it's not quite what you meant to say, and what happens when you finally let it say it anyway.

Nine more weeks live in between, safety, identity, power, integrity, possibility, abundance, connection, strength, compassion, self-protection, and autonomy. Full week-by-week breakdown lands in your inbox the moment you register.

Your Guides for the 14 Weeks

Jill Burk

Jill Burk

Founder of Flourish Creative Group and the Calligraphy Chronicles, Jill has spent years building the kind of community where calligraphers stop hiding their work and start claiming it. This program is the one she wished someone had handed her years ago, part creative recovery course, part permission slip.

Cheryl Tefft

Cheryl Tefft

Cheryl has been a professional calligrapher and teacher for over 30 years. Her work has appeared in Martha Stewart Weddings, and she spends much of her practice on luxury weddings and bespoke, one-of-a-kind documents. She brings that same depth of experience here, holding space for the pages that don't want to be written and the strokes that take three tries. She's seen firsthand what happens when calligraphers finally stop apologizing for their own work.

Expect warmth, a little irreverence, zero judgment about your Morning Pages streak, and two real live humans on the other end of every Tuesday call.

Questions, Answered

Do I need to own a copy of The Artist's Way?

You'll want one. It's widely available wherever you buy books, and any edition works. We'll tell you exactly what to read each week.

Will there be recordings?

Yes. Every session is recorded, and it's yours to keep.

What if I miss a Tuesday?

Life happens. Do what you can with the workbook that week and jump back in the following Tuesday. Fourteen weeks is a lot of chances to show up.

I'm not a "real" artist. Is this still for me?

That sentence is exactly what Week 3 is about. Yes. This is for you.

Fourteen Tuesdays. One honest practice.

Starts September 29th. Seats are held for the live room, not an unlimited waitlist, so don't sit on this one.
